Statue of Ptah

Museo Egizio, Turin

Ptah was the creator god of Memphis, believed to have brought the world into being through thought and speech, and the patron of craftsmen and artisans. He is shown in his characteristic form, wrapped like a mummy, wearing a close-fitting skullcap and a straight beard, and holding a staff that combines the was scepter (power), the ankh (life) and the djed pillar (stability).

Ptah was widely worshiped, and at Deir el-Medina the royal tomb builders venerated him as "Ptah who hears prayers".
