Book of the Dead of Nebhepet, Scribe of the Necropolis

Museo Egizio, Turin

This Book of the Dead belonged to Nebhepet, a scribe of the necropolis, one of the officials who administered the work of the royal tomb builders at Thebes. The Book of the Dead gathered spells, hymns and illustrations that would allow the deceased to pass the gates of the underworld, answer its guardians and be judged worthy before Osiris.

Deir el-Medina was the village of the craftsmen who cut and decorated the royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings, and much of the Museo Egizio's collection comes from its houses, chapels and tombs.
