This seated statue of an official named Iteti follows the conventions of Old Kingdom private sculpture: a compact, frontal pose, hands resting on the knees, and a calm, idealized face. Statues like this were placed in the serdab, a closed statue chamber in the tomb, where they served as a home for the ka, the spirit of the deceased.
Traces of paint show that the figure was originally brightly colored, with the red-brown skin tone conventionally used for men.
