Statue of Horemheb with Ptah

Museo Egizio, Turin

Horemheb rose from army commander under Tutankhamun to become the last king of the 18th Dynasty. His reign restored the traditional temples and cults after the upheaval of the Amarna period, and he chose his successor, Ramesses I, founding the Ramesside line.

This group shows Horemheb together with Ptah, the creator god of Memphis and patron of craftsmen, expressing the king's close relationship with the gods and his role as their representative on earth.
