Statue of Ahmose-Nefertari

Museo Egizio, Turin

Queen Ahmose-Nefertari, wife of Ahmose I, the founder of the 18th Dynasty, and mother of Amenhotep I, was deified after her death. Together with her son she was worshiped as a patron of the Theban necropolis and of the workmen's village at Deir el-Medina.

This wooden statue shows her as a slender standing queen with a long wig, one arm held across her chest. Images of Ahmose-Nefertari often show her with dark skin, a color associated with the fertile earth and regeneration.
