Amulets were placed among the linen wrappings of a mummy, each in a prescribed position, to protect the body and give it specific powers in the afterlife. Common types include the wedjat eye of Horus for health and wholeness, the djed pillar for stability, the tyet knot of Isis, the scarab for rebirth and the heart scarab, inscribed with a spell to stop the heart from testifying against its owner at the judgment.
This display shows a mummy outline with amulets arranged where they would have been placed on the body.
