This rectangular wooden coffin, inscribed for a man named Hor, has the vaulted lid and corner posts of a type modeled on the ancient shrine of the south (the per-wer). Coffins of this form were placed around an inner anthropoid coffin, turning the burial into a sacred shrine that protected the body.
The painted panels carry funerary texts and images of the gods who guarded the deceased, including the Four Sons of Horus, who protected the internal organs.
