Page 523 from the book "De Roma Sotterranea" ("Rome Underground"), by Antoine Bosio. With an engraving depicting a decorated archway in the early Christian cemetary of St. Priscilla, with multiple subfigures. The first subfigure is a fisheye view of the archway showing the location of the decorative scenes; the others depict the details of these scenes. One scene shows a side view of Jonah being spat up by the whale, which has oxlike horns, a third horn atop its snout, distinct forelegs, and a sea-serpent's tail. Another scene shows Jonah, nude, seated on a rock with one hand on his chin, under a lattice with gourd-vines growing over it. Italian text printed above and below describes the figure.
Watermark in paper; a rectangular shieldlike form with what may be an animal motif.
