Uncolored engraving with an elaborate decorative border, styled as a frame, surrounding an image of a flooded countryside with a single-masted ship in the foreground. Submerged cottages and church spires are visible, and people and oxen struggle in the waters towards small rescue boats and hillocks. The title and publisher information are given in the lower part of the decorative border, and the engraver attribution is printed below. The title translates to "The flood of 1740-1741"
The engraving is mounted on a piece of heavy laid paper, with a second border hand drawn in iron gall ink; this border is comprised of a pair of lines. The ink and paper indicate that it is near contemporary with the print itself.
