AF-WX-2155A.T.jpg

Print on glossy paper of a painting with a rowboat approaching a spouting whale. A man raises a lance and prepares to throw it at the tail of the whale. The painting is signed S.K. The image was originally rendered in greyscale, but it has been hand-painted in color. Under the image is printed a caption, "SEVERING A WHALE's VERTEBRAL COLUMN. Instead of a harpoon a broad-bladed lance or a tethered axe is used. In the scene depicted the ormer is being used. " There are two spaces between "the" and "ormer"; it looks as if this is a misprint and the latter word should be "former".
