A view of the shipyard on the island of Onrust in Batavia. Onrust (Unrest) quickly became the largest and most important shipyards in the Indies between 1614 and 1795. The name is said to come from the island's working conditions where the repair and maintenance of ships provided a never-ending workflow for carpenters, allowing them no rest.
A large ship of the line leans onto its starboard side in the background. Another one sails toward the port in the right foreground. Men on the boats engage in various activities such as rowing and working on ships. A small vignette of scattered shipbuilding tools surrounding a standing sword enclosed by a wreath divides the Dutch text.
