Protective Goddesses

National Museum of Egyptian Civilization

Egyptian religion was full of protective goddesses who guarded the king, the dead and ordinary people: the vulture Nekhbet and the cobra Wadjet, protectors of Upper and Lower Egypt; Hathor in the form of a cow; and Isis and Nephthys, who spread their wings over Osiris and the deceased.

This display brings together figures of several of these goddesses.

The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat, Cairo, opened in 2021 and traces Egyptian civilization from prehistory to the present; it is also home to the royal mummies moved from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square.
