This fragment preserves the head and upper body from the lid of an anthropoid (human-shaped) sarcophagus inscribed for a man named Khaemwaset, "He Who Appears in Thebes". He is shown with a wig and crossed arms, holding symbols of protection.
Stone sarcophagi in human form were a luxury reserved for high officials and members of the royal family, and even as a fragment the lid shows the quality of the carving.
