This funerary papyrus was made for a man named Djehutymes (Thutmose), whose name honors Thoth, the god of writing and wisdom. Funerary papyri combined spells and painted vignettes so that the dead could navigate the underworld, face judgment before Osiris, and join the gods.
The papyrus would have been rolled and placed in the coffin or a statuette of Ptah-Sokar-Osiris among the grave goods.
