Votive Offerings for Artemis

Ephesus Archaeological Museum, Selçuk

Pilgrims came from across the Greek world to the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, leaving offerings in thanks for her help or to ask for her favor. Votive gifts ranged from small figurines, jewelry and pottery to ivory, bronze and precious metal objects, and excavations at the Artemision have recovered offerings dating back to the 7th century BCE.

The Ephesus Archaeological Museum in nearby Selçuk houses finds from the ancient city, including sculpture from its fountains, public buildings and the Terrace Houses of its wealthiest residents.
