This marble sculpture shows a muscular male figure reclining, his body turned in a relaxed pose. Reclining warriors, heroes and river gods were favorite subjects for the decoration of Roman fountains and public buildings, several of which lined the main streets of Ephesus.
The Ephesus Archaeological Museum in nearby Selçuk houses finds from the ancient city, including sculpture from its fountains, public buildings and the Terrace Houses of its wealthiest residents.
