Gold Artifacts

Ephesus Archaeological Museum, Selçuk

This display brings together gold objects found at Ephesus, including jewelry and ornaments. Gold was worn as a sign of wealth and status and was also dedicated to Artemis in her temple, where excavations found gold and electrum votive offerings from as early as the 7th century BCE.

The Ephesus Archaeological Museum in nearby Selçuk houses finds from the ancient city, including sculpture from its fountains, public buildings and the Terrace Houses of its wealthiest residents.
