This manuscript contains the new tenth century edition of the Homilies of Gregory of Nazianzus (fourth century) made up of sixteen orations intended to be read in church. Dedicatory inscriptions indicate that this luxurious codex was commissioned by Joseph Agioglykerites, abbot of the Pantokrator Monastery in Constantinople as a gift to the Pantanassa Monastery on the Sea of Marmara.

The illustration accompanying each oration is associated with its subject, i.e., the feast day on which it is supposed to be read, such as the Resurrection (p. 5r), the Nativity (p. 91r), and the Baptism of Christ (p. 197v), and reveals the influence that worship had on iconography. This is the most richly illustrated codex in Sinai.
