Neolithic
The pottery tradition in Indonesia is associated with the spread of Neolithic culture. So far the oldest dating has been found in Sulawesi, in West Sulawesi Minanga Sipakko Site, dating between 3500-3800 BP (Simanjuntak,2008). The dating of sites outside Sulawesi, which is much younger, becomes a crucial point to indicate Sulawesi as a starting place for developing Neolithic culture before spreading to other islands in the archipelago. It is worth noting that the bearers of the Neolithic culture in Indonesia are generally associated with Austronesian-speaking people (hereafter named Austronesians). These ‘Mongoloid’ people entered the archipelago at ca. 4000 BP.
