This lithograph printed in colors depicts the ships that made up the Stone Fleet which sailed from New Bedford November 18, 1861. The Stone Fleet were made up of mostly aging whaleships. They were filled with stones and were deliberately sunk by the Union navy at the entrance of the Charleston Harbor in South Carolina in hope of obstructing vessels supplying the Confederates.
