In the center is the cutter yacht 'Christabel.' A group of other cutter yachts sail directly behind her in a race hosted by the Royal Thames Yacht Club on 23 May 1862. In this match, 'Christabel' of 48 tons, 'Marina' of 65 tons, 'Phosphorus' of 50 tons, 'Glance' of 36 tons, and 'Audex' of 52 tons competed against one another for prizes to the value of 200. 'Christabel' led the way to the Northfleet Hope and the Lower Hope. The 'Audax' and 'Glance' encounted a storm and lowered their topsails, 'Phosphorus' broke her bowsprit, and 'Marina' collided with a club steamer rounding the Nore Light allowing the 'Christabel' to arrive first at the finish line.
The print has been trimmed to the edge of the image.
