Side view of the royal yacht, the "Royal Sovereign", as she sails out to visit the Russian Squadron, which had stopped in Portsmouth on its way to the Mediterranean in 1827. In the background at left is another vessel and a coastal building; in the background at right is a collection of large ships, likely the Squadron. The "Royal Sovereign" herself is three-masted, and flies a British naval jack at stern and a flag bearing the royal insignia. The title indicates that the Dutchess of Clarence (formerly Princess Adelaide of Saxe-Meningen and later Queen Adelaide of Britain) was on board the "Royal Sovereign".
