Scene of the yacht "Royal Sovereign", at centre, being towed into harbor by the steamer "Lightning", at right. In the background at right several other vessels are visible, some of which appear to be the Russian Squadron to which the "Royal Sovereign" was being taken. At right is a shore with a fortified building and a small ordinary house, with a line of washing outside.
The two named vessels both fly British naval jacks. The "Royal Sovereign" also flies a flag with an anchor emblazoned upon it on its main mast.
Title and production information printed in lower margin.

On board the "Royal Sovereign" was Adelaide, Dutchess of Clarence and later Queen of the British Empire, who was making a visit to the Russian Squadron that was visiting Britain en route to the Mediterranean.
