A port-broadside view of the steamship 'City of Paris' off a coast. The ship was part of the largest passenger steam ship line to America, the Inman Line. Their screw-propelled ships were economical, but not especially fast. In competition with Cunard, Inman launched an express service with ships to rival the best of the Cunard Line; the 'City of Paris' was one of five liners built for that purpose. As soon as she was launched, the 'City of Paris' established herself as an equal of Cunard��s first screw steamer, 'Scotia.'
