A starboard-broadside view of the clipper ship 'John Bertham.' She was named after a famous Salem sea captain and merchant. She was a pioneer of Glidden & Williams' line of San Francisco clippers, regularly servicing the route from Boston to San Francisco from 1851-1853. In the print after Clement Drew, held at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA, she is sailing in windy weather. She flies a US flag at her stern and other identifying house flags. A lighthouse is in the far left background.
