A port-broadside view of the SS 'City of Hartford' of the Hartford & New York Line. She entered service in 1852 and reigned as one of the celebrated ships of the river for her external appearance and internal passenger accommodations. Black smoke from her smokestacks trail behind her in a slick stream to indicate her speed. Passengers converse near railings on the deck. She is most notable for her collision with the Middletown railroad bridge en route to New York.
