A hand-colored map from Jan Jansson's Accuratissima orbis antiqui delineatio (Amsterdam: 1652). Starting 1638, Jansson published the Palestine map by Henricus Hondius, his brother-in-law, under his own name. Hondius' map was based off an earlier map by Christiaan van Adrichem. Southwestern oriented, the map depicts details such as the journey of Moses and the Israelites from Egypt, Moses receiving the Ten Commandments from Mount Sinai, and a number of battles. An elaborate wreath hangs from the title and below it are two putti holding up a banner with Latin text.
The lower portion of the map depicts Moses holding the Ten Commandments, Aaron dressed in priestly vestments, and a scene of Jonah and the whale in the Mediterranean Sea. Relief is depicted pictorially and the distance scale is enclosed within a cartouche on the lower right corner.
