The greenish water is a pattern of white-capped peaks and the deck and rigging of the ship in the center is rendered with laborious and accurate detail. Pairs of men work the lowest and highest yards of the foremast, and another man is at the end of the bowsprit. Men on deck look toward the green mass of land in the distance on the left side of the print. Presumably, the whaleship is returning home after a multiyear voyage.
