On August 25, 1864, the Prince of Wales hosted a race for schooners above 20 tons belonging to any Royal Yacht Club where the prize was a cup valued 100 guineas. The 'Madcap' won the Royal prize having completed the race in 6 hours, 10 minutes, and 20 seconds. Second place was the 'Albertine' at 6 hours, 24 minutes, and 36 seconds. Third place was 'Galatea' at 6 hours, 35 minutes, and 50 seconds.
