A detailed map of west Friesland (northwest Netherlands) from the Mercator-Hondius atlas, Atlas Sive cosmographiae meditationes de fabrica mundi et fabrica figura. The presence of sandbanks or reefs and the water currents are clearly marked through the use of different lines or dots. At the top left corner is a cartouche with the title and at the bottom right corner is a cartouche with the scale.
