A copperplate engraving from the book titled, 'Plan de plusieurs b̢timens de mer avec leurs proportions dedi̩ Son Altesse Serenissime Monseigneur Louis Auguste de Bourbon' (Marseille: c. 1720) by the French Captain Henri Sbonski de Passebon. The book was a collection of naval architecture prints. This print is of a Dutch fluyt ship at a port, which was the sailing ship in general service during the 16th century and made Holland a great maritime power in the 17th century. The fluyt was characterized by its long, relatively narrow hull that was designed to carry as much cargo as possible. It was three-masted and had a large hold beneath its single deck. The main and fore masts carried two or more square sails and the third mast a lateen sail.
There is a watermark of a sun with a face, visible on the verso of the center left side of the print.
