Plate 13 of 'Historia de la marina real espa̱ola episodios maritimos' lithographed by J. J. Martinez and others. The print depicts the brave act of the Provost of Irarr��zabal abandoning his ship to board and capture a French ship off Cantabria, Spain in 1536. According to the Spanish inscription at the bottom of the print, the Provost wielded a thick bar or iron, and that detail is depicted in the print. The Provost, finely dressed in a yellow coat and a feathered hat, holds a pointed iron bar in the half-sinking galley. The men of the galley climb the broadside of the ship. Men battle with swords and knifes on top of the quarterdeck while other fall wounded into the sea. A soldier plants the Spanish flag at the head of the boat.
