The print depicts Christopher Columbus embarking on his lateen sail caravel to leave for the discovery of the New World from the port of Palos, Spain on August 3, 1492. Workers load supplies while the departing crewmembers say their final goodbyes with family and friends and receive blessings from monks.
This particular print appears to be part of a series that was produced much later (1892) than when the print series was first published (c. 1850). The publication detail is not inscribed below the image. A complete digitized bound series can be found at the Biblioteca de Catalunya.
