Hand-colored cartoon of General Herman Kessels and his skeleton of a whale, 1830-1831. The whale skeleton is provided with wheels and a steam engine and staffed by Belgian insurgents, dressed in blue uniforms with muskets and red caps. From the mouth of the whale, a party of men fire a cannon. Officer on top of whale's jaw is shouting "rends toi vils esclaves", which translates to "Give yourselves up, vile slaves". The title refers to the Belgian siege of Maastricht in 1830-1831 . The title is printed under the image.
