An exceptional colored lithograph of the clipper ship 'Dreadnought' sailing under a full moon off the Tuskar Lighthouse in County Wexford, Ireland. The light atop the lighthouse shines in a circular bean of rays in the night. The backdrop of the dark clouds highlights the white and full sails, and at the right side of the print, the clouds encircle the moon. A large red cross is on the fore topsail, indentifying her as part of the Red Cross Line that carried immigrants westbound between Liverpool and New York. Another three-masted ship is in the left horizon. The medium clipper, 'Dreadnought,' was built to carry and withstand a large spread of canvas in strong winds. Under her first commander, Captain Samuel Samuels, the 'Dreadnought' was a celebrated fast transatlantic voyager; she averaged 19 days eastbound and 26 days westbound.
