CC-N-0330.T.jpg

Hand-colored engraving of two vessels after a naval battle. At right, in stern view, the "Phoenix": her sails are tattered and the British naval jack on her stern druags in the water. At left, "La Didon", in side view, is in worse shape: her foremast is shown mid-fall, as it cracks and tumbles towards the stern. The main mast has already broken, its top portion, complete with crow's-nest, splashing into the water in front of the ship. Her sails are tattered, and her rigging torn, but her French flag remains high.
Title and production information printed in lower margin. At top, printed: "From a drawing in the possession of Captn. T. Baker."
