Colored engraving of a number of ships, of different sizes, and some whaleboats, at sea; there is a hilly landmass and a bank of clouds in the background. Many of the ships fly the Union Jack, along with a flag with the Union Jack in the canton on a blue ground; some fly just the latter; some fly a red flag with a white horizontal stripe down it. The flag designs come from the engraving, not the colorist. Some ships have clouds of smoke rising up from them. Both some of the ships and some of the other features of the scene, including a single whale, are numbered. Above the image is printed the title. Below the image is printed, "For the London Magazine, Printed for R. Baldwin Junr. at the Rose in Pater Noster Row."
