A view of the port of Oudeschild, Texel. The Dutch town was an important haven for ships such as the Dutch East India Company to seek shelter when the winds were unfavorable. During a considerable part of the eighteenth century, Texel benefited from the upsurge of mercantile seafaring, and a number of wealthy seamen lived in the town. Various sailing vessels navigate the waters of the port. In the distance in the right, stone walls protect ships from rough waters.
