Head of a Female Statue, Possibly Aphrodite

Acropolis Museum

This marble head of a woman, with softly modeled features, may come from a statue of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. Aphrodite had sanctuaries on the slopes of the Acropolis, including one on the north slope shared with Eros.

The Acropolis Museum displays sculpture from the Acropolis and its slopes, from the Archaic korai and pediments to the Parthenon marbles, in galleries built over the excavated remains of an ancient Athenian neighborhood.
