Menkaure’s Valley Temple is one of the most complex and fascinating structures of monumental architecture on the Giza Plateau. It is a part of the Menkaure pyramid complex, which includes Menkaure’s Pyramid, Pyramid Temple, and Valley Temple, and the monumental causeway between the Valley Temple and Pyramid.
During burial, Menkaure’s body was first brought to the Valley Temple to be mummified and other religious ceremonies and rituals were performed before being taken on to be buried in the pyramid. The temple was later inhabited, and many archaeological excavations have been conducted to understand who was the Menkaure Valley Temple was used by and why they lived there.
The ongoing excavations at the Menkaure Valley Temple are important to understanding the history of Giza and ancient Egyptians who lived around the pyramids.
