This elaborate miter, in the shape of a Papal tiara, is reminiscent of the lavish helmet of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent (1532-1535), known to us through a number of Venetian engravings and other sources. Indeed, apart from the iconographic decoration carved in relief, that refers to basic dogmatic principles, Christ as Archpriest and other Sinai subjects, it is the variety of precious stones, the mixture of techniques, and the overall quality of construction that recall to mind works of art of the imperial court in Constantinople. The pierced motifs, the finely carved floral stems, the arabesque decorative designs in niello, and all other ornaments that frame the main scenes compose a bold and impressive work of art.
