Last October at Whittier College, pro-Trump hecklers disrupted what was meant to be a question-and-answer session with California’s Attorney General, Xavier Becerra, who has filed a lawsuit against the Trump Administration over DACA (The Fire). The protest, which was captured by “We the People Rising,” involved a series of anti-immigration slogans-- “America First,” “Obey the Law,” “Build the Wall,” etc.-- which made the conversation between the audience and the elected official impossible (The Fire) Slogans like these has led to a dangerous conflation of anti-immigration sentiment, as is clearly reflected on Twitter. Tweets tagged with #anchor babies were frequently accompanied by hashtags covering a wide range of immigration debates, the most common being #EndDaca, #BuildTheWall, #Trump, and #ChainMigration (Twitter).
